Went fabric shopping (finally!) and sketched up my idea, just a cozy pull over sweater with pockets and maybe a hood. I found soft knits in dark gray and a great yellow/gold to work with. Efrain’s way ahead of me with his sleeves already made, but I’ve been watching Project Runway Australia for pointers!

Here I go!

Things are getting pretty heated in the sewing room. I decided to go all couture hand sewing, then after one hem i decided to do all machine sewing. Things are pretty intense right now. No telling what’s going to happen.

so, the challenge this time is to make a shirt in 3 weeks, under $25. well i quickly went over budget and then i voted for a budget increase to requalify me for the project. the vote is still pending but i suspect it’ll go my way.

i decided to make a lightweight sweater because i don’t like heavy, fluffy sweaters but i still like to venture away from my button down longsleeves, occasionally. plus it doesn’t get too cold in the winter here, so i wanted something that i could pair with a jacket and not run the risk of sweating if i’ve slightly overestimated the cold.

yes i do fully expect that when i wear the sweater, my legs will magically elongate like the guy i’ve sketched and i’ll get all buff

Hello. I’ve been sewing quite a bit more and so far have just been making bags, but the last couple of weeks ideas are shifting to clothes, who knew! The idea came first when I mentioned to my sister that maybe I could make my maid of honor dress for her wedding in Nov. And then my friend Efrain emailed me this:

{i want to start sewing and making my own clothes and grooming myself for Project Runway so i can be on season 8
how does that sound? that’s two and a half seasons away. plenty of time.
we should have sewing challenges!!!
and we can go on project runway together

And so, a few days ago we began our first challege. We’ll be documenting the progress and results here as we go along. I’ve never made an article of clothing in my life, wish me luck!
