I love weddings. I got married last year and so did my sister, both weddings were amazing and most importantly – totally DIY. A few months ago one of my best friends announced that she was getting married the end of June outside of Chicago! I built them a wedsite and this weekend I finished their invitations, so fun!
The design, paper and everything came together so well I wanted to share – in case anyone else is looking for a simple, affordable solution for an invitation/rsvp!
I used blue 12×12 scrapbooking paper cut in half (12 x 6) – this image is of the front and back:
The bottom section is a detachable post card that people can personalize and mail back – made easily with a scoring attachment for my cutter bee (super cheap, especially if you have 40% off coupon). Then it just folds up, closes with a clear seal and it’s read to mail!
Unfortunately, the clouds were too messy and didn’t make the cut… I still love the way they turned out and will definitely be using them on future projects! Oh, and thanks to my husband Sam for all the help – you’re amazing!
This is a great idea! Just curious, how did you print these onto the 12×12 paper? Also, most of the paper in that size (at least that I’ve seen) is too flimsy for mailing. How did you get around that? Thanks for any information you can provide!
Hi Cindy, thanks! It’s a cardstock scrapbooking paper. I got mine at a Scrapbooking show but have seen it in packs of 10-12 at any of the big-box craft stores. My printer will only print 8 1/2 wide, so first I cut the paper in half so that it’s 6 x 12. It should work on any standard printer.
How funny. I’m an Erica and guy’s name is Erik. And even more funny is that we are planning a DIY wedding! Thank you for the invite template and Congrates to you and the other Eric and Erica couple.
Homemade wedding invitations were one of the many things that I did myself for my wedding. A roommate of mine was a graphic designer so she and I designed them together–same format you used above–and then sent them out to a local printer. 200 invites cost us less than $150. I then used the same design to make my place cards–business card template from Staples that I printed on my own computer–and my programs–each page was petal shaped and connected with a brad at the bottome which fanned out to make a fan. I think it’s great that you’re sharing this! It’s such a money saver!
Here it is as a pdf so you can view it, won’t be able to edit it without illustrator though. You could always place it into the program you’d like to create the invitation with and recreate it though. DOWNLOAD
I don’t have time now to convert it, maybe in the future. You could just paste the illustrator files into indesign and recreate the template easily though… Here’s a pdf version as well if you’d prefer that: DOWNLOAD
I love your design! It’s so very adorable. I’m making my own wedding invitations as well, and I was curious to know what types of information you included in these. I’m not quite sure what all I need to put on mine.
Thank you! Lets see… if you’re JUST doing the invite and won’t have extra info online you’ll need: Date, Time, Place, phone# and email of bride and groom, registries, Please RSVP, Is there a reception w/ full meal? Just cake? Mention clothes if its SUPER formal.
Just like any event! Imagine you’re going to a wedding tomorrow… what information do you need to get there and feel comfortable? Check out http://offbeatbride.com/ if you haven’t, tons of good info in the blog and especially the forum. :)
Thanks! I’m sure I could. :) I’m out of town for the next week but if you email me an idea of what you want I’ll put together a quote for you then. oh.amanda@gmail.com
